Katarina Wit first started skating at age five. Her talent soon became obvious, and she gained entry to a special school for children with a talent for sport in Karl-Marx-Stadt. She met Jutta Muller in this school. Witt had her first breakthrough season in 1982 when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Her elegance and grace caught everyone's attention immediately, and from that point ahead she became the dominant figure skater in the game. Olympic victory At the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the female bronze medal in figure skating after an intense contest. A more competitive contest afterward, she won her gold medal. She did not win the free skating contest but won gold based on performances during the compulsory figure and short program. Witt was the first woman to be a repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes in her acting career however, she returned to her sports for competition at the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. Although she didn't get a single medal she delighted fans with her seventh place finish. Witt was named to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by the members of it in 1995.
